I really appreciate this post because as I was adding to my baby registry I saw recommended : socks. Okay, well that makes sense ...babies feet might get cold. This made me then think about shoes. Do I need shoes?!?! I had never thought about this before never having been raised around babies or having babysat much at all or having had my own children ...
I ultimately decided not to worry about shoes because I can't imagine the purpose. I can't imagine a baby/toddler wanting them on their feet unless they are literally walking. I know I'm an adult and try my best to get away with not wearing shoes as much as possible. When I was at work I'd slip them off under my desk.

But then I'm the barefoot hippie type so don't mind me! At least I know that my choice not to spend money and force something on my kid that isn't necessary isn't a unique decision.

I found your site off of Sorta Crunchy. I like your style :)
As for the shoe debate, I'm right there with you. Infants/young toddlers don't need shoes! They aren't walking much (if at all) and shoes don't help the foot grow - in fact, it will impede normal arch formation.
So far no one has mentioned this about my 8 mos old. But it is summer and I'm always wearing him when I'm out and about...maybe the sling distracts them enough :)

Hey there Latoya! I've been offline for some time, my boy was sick and then the bug went through the whole family, so missed your move to blogger - congrats and I'm glad to see you keep going!

And this concept about shoes has never occurred to me - but I don't think you're crazy :)

I don't think you're crazy at all for this. My girl (20 mo) wears shoes when she's out somewhere or in the front where there's some concrete that gets hot in the sun. I do have to keep her in shoes & socks in the winter b/c I can't afford to keep my house warm enough not to. She does have shoes, but I get them cheap. Her sandals for this summer were $1 at a thrift store.

@ Leah: I could make a separate post about responses to babywearing.

@ Mamabelle: you sound like my kind of shopper.
